Introducing Energostat: use your rooftop surplus at home

Energostat is our own control box for solar systems with Victron equipment. It sends surplus power to your car, water heater, pool or heat pump instead of exporting it to the grid for next to nothing.

For power exported at midday you get only a fraction of what you pay for grid electricity in the evening. Off-grid, the surplus is wasted altogether. That's why we developed Energostat: a small box for your solar system that sends the surplus where you can use it at home.

How it works

  1. Measures the surplus. The box is connected to your Victron equipment. It always knows how much the panels are producing, how much the house is drawing and how full the battery is.
  2. Decides. It picks the appliance that gets the surplus according to your priorities, while keeping an eye on the battery reserve and the main breaker.
  3. Sends the energy on. It charges the car smoothly, adding and trimming power with the sun. The water heater, pool and heat pump are switched via contactors.

What it controls

  • Electric car: adjusts the charging current smoothly to match the surplus. It can also charge to a target, say 80% by 7:00.
  • Water heater: switched on via a contactor when there's enough surplus, heating water with energy that would otherwise flow away.
  • Pool: filtration and heating are switched on via a contactor when there's energy to spare.
  • Heat pump: started via a contactor when there's enough sun.
  • Other appliances: we connect them via a contactor. Each appliance has its own priority.

Safeguards

Energostat won't drain the house. The home battery keeps a reserve for the night, 30% by default, and below it appliances are never powered from the battery. It also watches the main breaker and every phase: switch on the oven and it cuts back, then raises the power again once you've finished cooking.

Control runs in the box in your home. If the internet goes down, it keeps working. If it has no data from the inverter, it stops.

The app

One screen shows the surplus, the home battery and what's charging right now. When something isn't running, the app tells you why, for example that there isn't enough sun or the car is already full. You switch modes with a single tap.

Who it's for

Energostat is designed for systems with Victron Energy equipment. For households, a JETPARTNER technician installs the box, connects the appliances and sets the priorities. Installers who build with Victron and want to offer surplus control to their customers are welcome to get in touch; we agree partnerships individually.

Pricing is on request for now. We'll quote based on what you want to control. There's more on the Energostat page.
